About

Melissa

My name is Melissa and I am the owner of Art It. I love to draw, paint, doodle, design, and calligraphy, which is why I became an art teacher- a jack of all trades! I have an eye for design, and I am always looking for ways to create the creative. Said another way, I look for ways I can Art It!.

I grew up in a family in which we were encouraged to follow our passions. At an early age, I discovered that I absolutely loved art. What started with my love for coloring books and coloring contests turned into my career as an artist. Since then I have had my artwork featured in the Omaha Summer Arts Festival, and I have been recognized in other contests. In addition, I have taught art to all grades, painted murals in baby nurseries, calligraphied hundreds of wedding invitations, and created enough artwork to adorn the walls of not only my house, but my families' houses as well! This love for art led me to get my Bachelor's in Art Education and Masters in Curriculum and Instruction.

Thank you for visiting my site! By giving me the opportunity to Art It, I hope you will find ways to create it for many years to come.

Why?

Why Art It?

I am so passionate about art and why art education is so important! I am aware that there is increasingly not enough art in our schools. Students need a creative outlet, something that they get at Art It! If children have practice thinking creatively, it will come naturally to them now and in their future careers. Art education helps with fine motor skills, confidence, decision making, perseverance, focus, and accountability.

I am both an artist and a teacher! I have my undergraduate degree in Art Education and a Masters in Curriculum and Instruction. I believe that being able to create your own artwork is one thing, but teaching others how to do it is something totally different. I have experience teaching in both private and public schools grades K-12 for almost a decade and I am going into my third year with Art It! I believe that you have to inspire a student and this is something that I take seriously every class that I have.

I teach not only projects but the PROCESS! I am a strong believer that in order to get a beginner to continue to grow in their skills, you have to teach more than just for the projects. At Art It, we start at the beginning! My Traditional students start with projects that were designed to give them these basics. It is so important to me that my students understand the WHY. This will help them as they continue to learn and create both inside and outside my studio.

I teach kids and adults alike! My Picassos in Training class is geared toward kids grades 1-3 in which projects are designed for their level. My Traditional class is designed for those students in grade 4-adult. In this class, the students are working individually on their projects with my guidance and instruction. In my classes, students learn anything from the basic pencil and charcoal drawings to acrylic, watercolor, chalk pastel, oil pastel, printmaking, scratchboard, and so much more!

I have small class sizes! I believe that in order to truly teach a child or adult alike, you have to give them the attention they deserve. At Art It, I limit all of my classes to no more than five students! With my small classes, no student is left behind. Each of my students are able to learn the techniques and skills with the proper amount of one-on-one instruction and guidance.

Families come to me from all over the metro and return year after year! My best compliment will always be passing my name off to your family and friends. I love to share my passion with my students and understand that it is more than just what happens in my studio. I do my best to have the highest customer service and have flexibility to meet your needs!

My students are proud of what they do! Every spring, I hold an art show in which my students are able to come and celebrate what they do. Each student invites their family and friends and enjoys an afternoon of art and fun. There is nothing that makes me more proud than seeing the pure joy each and every one of my students has when they show off their art. This is why I created Art It, this is why I do this! I hope to inspire each and every student that comes through my door.
